After Paris' awakening as judge, the legend finds its way into various literary genres. The papers are unanimous that they hold lessons for the reader. Therefore, the duplex sententia is assigned to the picturesque testimony. The artists, however, found their own ways of hinting the observer to the multiple layers of meaning. Simultaneously the value of didactic function of portraits from the 17th c. has to be relativized, as the eroticism made a significant contribution to the popularization.

This book ('The art of music in the period from Monteverdi to Bach')is an introduction to the history of Baroque music. It starts by describing seminal innovations in Italian music of the last decades of the 16th century, and terminates by presenting new trends in the music of the first half of the 18th century. The text is divided into twenty chronologically arranged chapters that discuss the most important issues in the development of Baroque music in Italy, Germany, France and England. Each chapter consists of several subchapters that focus on particular topics, such as musical life in specific historical environments, important musical institutions, typical music genres, their origin and development, composers' oeuvres, their biographies, and typical musical forms. Musical genres and composers are illustrated by several dozens of original analytical descriptions of particular musical works. Special chapters are devoted to broader theoretical issues of Baroque music. At the end of the monograph there is a substantial name- and subject index. Monografija prikazuje zgodovino evropske umetne glasbe v obdobju baroka. V vsebinskem smislu ima tri obsežnejše dele: prvi je posvečen epohalnim novostim v italijanski glasbi na prehodu v 17. stol.~drugi opisuje glasbo v 17. stol. v štirih glasbeno najpomembnejših evropskih deželah (Italija, nemške dežele, Francija, Anglija), tretji pa glasbo v prvi polovici 18. stol., ko je mogoče opaziti določeno ustalitev internacionalno uveljavljenih žanrov in glasbenih oblik. V delu se prepletajo različne vsebinske sestavine: opisano je glasbeno življenje v posameznih zgodovinskih okoljih~na to se navezujejo prikazi glasbenih žanrov~opisane so posamezne zgodovinske glasbene oblike, njihov nastanek in razvoj~prikazana je vrsta skladateljskih osebnosti~slednjič vključuje monografija vrsto analitično-kritiških opisov posameznih izbranih kompozicij, ki ilustrirajo glasbene oblike, žanre in skladateljske osebnosti.

Das Institut für Europäische Geschichte Mainz und die Johannes Gutenberg-Universität veranstalteten im akademischen Jahr 2010/2011 im Rahmen des Studienprogramms des gemeinsamen Graduiertenkollegs »Die christlichen Kirchen vor der Herausforderung ›Europa‹ (1890 bis zur Gegenwart)« eine Vorlesungsreihe, die unter dem Titel »Die Kirchen in Europa: Denker und Querdenker«. Die Vorträge gingen der Frage nach, wie sich kirchennahe Organisationen und ihre Entscheidungsträger zum Gedanken einer Einigung Europas positionierten und sich dem Prozess der europäischen Integration stellten. Der Fokus der Reihe richtete sich - als Pendant zu der ersten Ringvorlesung, die 2009-2010 stattfand und in einem Band »Die europäische Integration und die Kirchen. Akteure und Rezipienten« dokumentiert wurde - auf Persönlichkeiten und Gruppierungen, die in die Öffentlichkeit hineinwirkten und deren Meinungsbildung mitgestalteten. Der Band versammelt acht Beiträge von Kirchenhistorikern, Historikern und Politikwissenschaftlern. Die Beiträge decken einen langen Zeitraum ab und beleuchten in Fallbeispielen oder überblicksartig die Zeit vom ausgehenden 19. Jahrhundert bis an die Schwelle der Gegenwart. Trotz eines gewissen Schwerpunkts im deutschsprachigen Raum wird der Blick auch nach Estland und Italien gelenkt. In Betracht kommen Gruppen, wie politische Parteien; Konfessionskirchen, wie z. B. das Luthertum, und Institutionen, wie der Heilige Stuhl. Vorgestellt werden aber auch und vor allem Einzelpersonen und deren Haltung, wobei auch hier das Spektrum sehr weit ist und von der »Prominenz« bis hin zu weniger bekannten »Einzelgängern« reicht.
